databases - where to find them:

- Statistics Canada's
limited online databases. These tables are not downloadable, but it
should be possible to cut and paste the html files and convert them
into spreadsheet files. The data is of a summary nature, dealing with
wide swaths such as exports of commodities. More detailed data can be
obtained from Statistics Canada on request, sometimes at a cost.
Canadian
Databases - Ready for download:
- The National Pollution Release
Inventory. Comprehensive databases from 1993-1996 (latest year)
detailing the release of pollutants into the air, water and ground by
companies in Canada. The databases are available online for download
and use in a database manager. Already used by the Toronto Star for
stories on pollution in the Great Lakes.
- Ontario campaign
contribution Ontario journalist Patrick Cain has compiled
information into spreadsheets which he is making available for dowload
and use by other journalists.
