How to subscribe to a mailing list 

You have to send an email to an automatic robot server, so your email has to follow certain codes. You can't say "please let me join your list" because robot won't understand what you're saying.

First, check to see if the subscription address listed for each mailing list above is either: 

"listserv" 
"listproc" 
or "majordomo" 

These are different mailing list robots and they obey different commands

For "listserv" and "listproc" lists: 

1. Send an email to the subscription address.
2. Leave the subject area blank.
3. In the body of the message, type: 
   Subscribe (add the name of the list) (your first name) (your last name) 
   For example: subscribe caj-l Bill Gates
   
4. If you have a signature at the end of your emails, be sure NOT to send it. It will confuse the robot.
5. Save the first welcome message you get!  It will tell you how to unsubscribe

For "majordomo" lists: 

1. Send an email to the subscription address.
2. Leave the subject area blank.
3. In the body of the message, type: 
   Subscribe (add the name of the list) (your email address) 
   For example: subscribe caj-l billgates@microsoft.com
   
4. If you have a signature at the end of your emails, be sure NOT to send it. It will confuse the robot.
5. Save the first welcome message you get!  It will tell you how to unsubscribe
