Nebraska Background Checks

Before you hire an employee, go on a second date, or let someone borrow money, it's usually a good idea to know who they are. You can ask them questions, but the answers you receive may not be accurate representations of the person's past. So instead, you should consider performing Nebraska background checks.

Nebraska background checks are designed to supply you with specific data about the individuals of interest in your life. You'll find information on someone's:

  • Criminal history
  • Marital status
  • Current address
  • You may even find some financial estimates and any other document that relates to the person's life. All of that information has been collected within public records.

Since public records can be accessed by anyone, many companies and websites have decided to make the process easier for you. They have elected to receive as much personal information as possible. They have then taken that information and placed it in user friendly search engines.

This allows you to simply search for a name and find the people you're looking for. Then you can view all of the information they have available. You don't need to know any details, and you don't need to ask permission. The searches are completely anonymous, so no one will ever know you were searching for their data, nor will they ever be able to find out. Nebraska background checks are simply a great way to find out the history of the people that play a role in your life.

The CID (Criminal Identification Division) is operated by the Nebraska State Patrol and maintains the state central repository of all Nebraska criminal records and fingerprint records. The CID receives information concerning criminal offenses, including arrest and fingerprint records associated with anyone who commits a felony. The CID is also responsible for distributing this information to any authorized requesters, such as law enforcement agencies and other government agencies with a criminal justice purpose.

The CID was created in accordance with Nebraska legislature that passed the Security, Privacy and Dissemination of Criminal History Information Act. This bill was passed in order to streamline Nebraska’s criminal records into one place for easier access and stricter control. The goals were to make criminal record-keeping more efficient, to better protect individual’s privacy by improving administrative protocol, to open the system to periodic audits, and to make it easier for the public to gain access to Nebraska criminal records.

Subsequently, Nebraska criminal records, specifically the RAP (Arrest and Prosecution) sheet, are available upon request to the general public and list any arrests along with resulting dispositions. Dispositions could be convictions, null pros, nullified convictions, acquittals, verdicts that were set aside, or even pardons.

When requesting an individual’s RAP sheet, you need to include the person’s full name, date of birth, social security number and any aliases or maiden name, if known. This request can be made through the mail or in person at the Nebraska State Patrol office in Lincoln.

    Nebraska Driving Records

Although Nebraska driving records are considered public information, because of privacy concerns, individuals may request only their own Nebraska driving record. Individuals or businesses requesting multiple Nebraska driving records or another person’s driving record must certify that the reason for the request is on the list of exempted uses. This includes a federal or state government agency, or any agency with a criminal justice purpose, insurance companies, or if the individual signed his consent.

Nebraska driving records include a full history, such as full name, date of birth, license information and status, address, physical description, county of residence and any convictions, speeding tickets, moving violations or accidents. Simply fill out the request form, include a $3 fee per record request, and if mailing, have the form notarized. If you are submitting the form in person, be prepared to show government-issued identification. If you are requesting another person’s Nebraska driving records in person, the form must include the notarized signature of the individual in question.
