Nevada Background Checks

Nevada background checks are designed to serve one main purpose - to help you locate the information you need on the people in your life. One simple search gives you a considerable amount of data, including information such as:

  • Criminal Histories - Any crime of which the individual was charged becomes a matter of public record. While some crimes are fairly harmless and may not even cause the person to be a "Criminal," others can be much worse, and searching criminal histories gives you the opportunity to ensure the people you associate with are safe and honest.
  • Background Data - Whether you need it for personal or professional reasons, Nevada background checks provide you with useful background data as well, including addresses, family, etc.
  • There's no way to know for certain what will show up unless you look, because the data is based on any and all available public records on these individuals. If the information is available about the person, you'll be able to find it.

Nevada background checks can be used by anyone, and do not require the permission of the individual you're searching for. Because you can search anonymously, there is no reason not to find out the information if you're curious, interested, or you think it's necessary. Like the background checks they perform before you get hired for a job, these checks are a useful way to find out if you're surrounding yourself with the type of people that are worthwhile to have around, and not those with sketchy histories that may not be suitable to keep near your family.

    Nevada Criminal Records

The Records and Technology Division, part of the Nevada Department of Public Safety, maintains the state repository for Nevada criminal records. The Records and Technology Division was developed in 1985 to act as the central Nevada criminal records database. They collect arrest and criminal history information from various law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and other criminal justice agencies across the state to try and maintain accurate, easy to retrieve Nevada criminal records.

Nevada allows you to request your own criminal history, but requires every request for Nevada criminal records to include a fingerprint card. Fingerprints must be taken at a local law enforcement agency or a private provider, but the method is rolling (not electronic scanning).

Anyone may request his or her own personal Nevada criminal records. Nevada criminal records will include arrest details, detention, indictments, formal criminal charges, disposition of those charges (i.e. dismissal, acquittal, conviction, sentence, incarceration in Nevada), status information if that person is in jail, on parole or on probation, as well as formal transactions between a state criminal justice agency and the individual. The cost for this service is $21, and it takes anywhere from 6 to 7 weeks to process the request. Nevada criminal records do not include criminal information from other states or juvenile information.

Nevada’s Record and Technology Division requires a completed ID form, fingerprint card and fee be mailed to request Nevada criminal records. Business who require a Nevada criminal background check may fill out the form and request the records of another individual, as well as authorized entities, such as federal and state law enforcement agencies and other government criminal justice agencies.

    Nevada Jail Records

Nevada Department of Corrections offers an online inmate locator to obtain current Nevada jail records. The search requires either the inmate’s ID number or a combination of full name and date of birth. Your search will return the location of the inmate in question, as well as his or her status, although without an ID number, the search results aren’t guaranteed.

Victims of a Nevada crime must register with the Victim Services Unit in order to receive timely notifications if an inmate gets released, escapes or gets recaptured after escape, dies, in the case of public hearings such as parole, if the inmate legally changes his or her name, or if the inmate applies for a residential confinement program.
