State Level Information

Enacted by the Kansas legislature, the Kansas Open Records Act or KORA for short is a series of laws that were specifically created to guarantee access by the public to public records documents at all levels of government in the state of Kansas. The laws are spelled out in Statues 45-215 - 45-223.

The basis of the law that it "is declared to be the public policy of the state that public records shall be open for inspection by any person" - Open Record statute 45-216

CHRI or Criminal History Record Information is a summary of arrests and prosecutions made for criminal charges in the state. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is the Kansas Central Repository for CHRI in Kansas and they also provide information to the FBI for inclusion in the national criminal history record database.
