State Level Information

The Kentucky of Vital Statistics maintains birth and death records from 1911 forward, having been granted that duty in 1910 by the Vital Statistics Law enacted by the General Assembly. Marriage records were centrally registered beginning in June of 1958.

"The General Assembly finds and declares that the basic policy of KRS 61.870 to 61.884 is that free and open examination of public records is in the public interest and the exceptions provided for by KRS 61.878 or otherwise provided by law shall be strictly construed, even though such examination may cause inconvenience or embarrassment to public officials of others." - Kentucky Revised Statutes Chapter 61, Section 871

Anyone may request public records in Kentucky.

Court Record Resources

Criminal history background checks are offered to individuals, businesses, government agencies and licensing agencies through the Administrative Office of the Courts in Kentucky. The information is provided by CourtNet, the AOC statewide database record that collects information from local agencies in all of Kentucky's 120 counties. More than 4 million records from traffic and misdemeanors to felonies dating back to 1978.

Requests may be made either in person or by mail. The proper request form must be completed and a nominal fee paid for the criminal history records search to be performed.
