State Level Information

In Michigan the laws enacted to guarantee public access to public records of governmental entities within the state of Michael is the Michael Freedom of Information Act first put in place in 1977. The provisions of those laws are detailed in Michigan Compiled Laws Sections 15.231 - 15.246.

According to the enacting legislation, "It is the public policy of this state that all persons, except those persons incarcerated in state or local correctional facilities, are entitled to full and complete information regarding the affairs of government and the official acts of those who represent them as public officials and public employees, consistent with this act. The people shall be informed so that they may fully participate in the democratic process."

Court Record Resources

In the state of Michigan, OTIS may be used to receive information from the Offender Tracking Information System. This information may be verified through the Michigan State Department of Corrections (MDOC), Michigan Courts and the Michigan State Police as well as other local law enforcement agencies.

An OTIS search provides information about offenders previously and currently under the jurisdiction of the MDOC and may include information on those who have been transferred out of the MDOC system either by transfer or parole, probation or other supervision. Only those under supervision for the last three years will appear.
