Nevada Public Records

State Level Information

The Nevada Open Records Act is a series of laws designed to guarantee that the public has access to public records of government bodies at all levels in Nevada.

The stated purpose of the Nevada Open Records Act "is to foster democratic principles by providing members of the public with access to inspect and copy public books" Nevada Revised Statutes Section 239.001

Anyone may request public records in Nevada. "A person may request a copy of a public record".

Court Record Resources

Only the individual who is named may request a copy of their own Nevada criminal history record. To obtain a copy of Nevada criminal history records, you must contact the Nevada Criminal History Repository and follow the following instructions:

  1. Complete DPS-006, Nevada Personal Identification Criminal History Request form.
  2. Submit a complete and original set of fingerprints along with name, date and place of birth on a standard Fingerprint form FD-258. This must include individual (rolled) impressions of all ten fingers as well as a simultaneous (flat) print from all ten at once.
  3. Payment of $21

These must be submitted by mail to DPS Criminal History Repository in Carson City.

In response you will receive either a negative response that no record has been found or a positive one, with a letter that states the record was located along with the complete contents of that record.
