State Level Information
In the state of Utah, the Government Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA) was implemented to guarantee the public is assured reasonable access to public records of government bodies at all levels in the state . Documents created or maintained by public offices in the state of Utah are open for inspection to and by any member of the public.

Individuals who need to obtain a copy of their criminal history background information in Utah may do so either in person at the Bureau of Criminal Identification or through the mail.
When coming in person to apply:
- The fee is $10, payable in cash, personal check, credit card, money order or cashier's check
- a valid government issued photo ID must accompany the request. This does not include a driver privilege card.
- The hours of service are 7 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday. This does not include Fridays, weekends or state holidays.
When applying by mail, applicants must download and complete the Right of Access Application for Criminal Background Checks and mail the properly completed form and applicable fee to the office at:
