Court Record Resources
Changes made to Title 20, Chapter 117 Section 2056(c) allow a person to obtain information from the Vermont Criminal Information Center regarding criminal conviction records for any purpose so long as the requesting party has filed a user agreement with the VCIC. In short, this allows for the conviction records to be open and available to public access as of July 1, 2008. It is important to note that this only applies to criminal records in the state of Vermont and not to national records.
VCIC records are identity based. This is a step that ensures the validity of information and the identity of the subject. Court records on the other hand, are case or docket based and are more likely the subject of errors that can lead to negative hits on a background search.
